that plumbing is not as simple as everyone thinks

over 108,000 posts on plumbing and heating questions/problems

next is electrics just over 48,000 .

why does joe public think they can do plumbing?

Well its obvious isn't it?

Plumbers are thick and leave school at 15 with no GCSEs and go into plumbing.

If they can do it then obviously anyone with five GCSEs Graded A to C will be able to do plumbing!

Have a degree ( even in English Literature ) and you can not only do the plumbing exceptionally well but write poetry about it as well.

Oh to pipes, and all things of heating;
A good service to stop flames vitating.
Woodbe plumbers heed this warning
Don't mess with gas or your house'll be burning.
Stoichiometric combustion is the key.
To optimum burning and efficiency.

Not exactly a haiku, but it will do for this time of night off the cuff

The general public believes that if it gets hot or water comes out of it, then it is right and so they have done exactly what a decent installer can do..... And it is the fault of the gas supplier that their gas bills are so high...... I still visit people who see no need for a room thermostat....
