bathroom light

have tried to fit a new bathroom light but it remains on and canno be switched off the wires from the ceiling are red and black,does that mean there is no earth? I have tried to guess which wires go where but have only succeeded in blowing the fuse that operates all the upstairs lights please help.

Assuming you have two reds and two blacks, then to make the light work you want to connect the two reds together in a bit of terminal strip, and the light is connected to the two blacks (one to L, one to N). More than two reds and two black and you need to do a bit of detective work.

As for having no earths, that could be more of a problem - what is your light made of ?
 
Alfonso this work is notifiable to LABC and must be covered by a Minor Works Certificate.
Call an electrician.
Guessing is not the way to tackle any electrical work!!
