OK, I have read all the other posts about the Baxi Bahama 100 combi...also, I have no intention of doing the work myself. The reason I am posting is because the CORGI HE is coming tomorrow and I want to pool your expertise if it will help....

Basically, HW and CH is now not working - there was a problem in Jan where changing the pressure switch fixed it. Then an intermittent flame failure but increasing pressure a bit fixed it (don't ask me!)...

But now, everything seems to work except the flame igniting (e.g. fan on, light on to indicate HW demand - so not the flow switch - sounds like pump is working).

When the power has been off (I have turned it on and off to try and clear a technical fault) and HW is demanded - there is a nasty cranking sound...I think it is coming from the Actuator/Accentuator (can't spell it sorry). Then all the right noises but no flame.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys, great forum btw.

From what you have said I cannot guess what your problem is. It sounds as if it will be easy to identify when in front of the boiler though.

As usual, I am interested that you feel the need to ask these questions in advance of the engineers visit. To me that indicates a lack of confidence in his ability to correctly diagnose the problem.

Since I know nothing about who you have engaged, I am unable to form any opinion on his competence and wonder if this is based on a common public perception of a general lack of skills in the Industry?

If so, what could we do to improve the public's perception of our capabilities?

Not a general perception on my part - I know the CORGI engineer well and he has serviced our boilers (in previous house until December) for years. However, I know he is not a Baxi specialist (he has been honest about this in the past and has told me this is the first Bahama 100 he has serviced/worked on).

The reason for my post is that there are a number of people on this forum that will have specifically dealt with the Bahama 100 (and all of its associated problems) and I wondered if something was obvious from my description (I know little if anything about boilers etc).

Cheers for the reply

If the fan is running as you say then finding the fault should be easy for him.

The common problems on this model seem not to be the fault with yours!

Thanks Tony - he might have found the fault if he turned up! To be fair he is ill and sounded awful on the phone. Does anyone know of a good HE (preferably combi boiler/baxi specialist) in Surrey (Woking/Guildford)?

Thanks

I know a brilliant one in the guildford area...............me :)

I find that the main cause of ignition failure on the bahama is either a blocked condesate trap or the internal combustion chamber seal has melted and allowing heat to generate around the fan which trips out a overheat stat located near the fan.

I don't know if I am allowed to ask this on here - but I haven't had a hot shower in 2 days so s--ff the rules - any chance you can do an urgent call out tomorrow or wednesday? (I am in Woking town centre)

If so, could you give me your phone number?

Happy for you to email

Cheers

I didn't think it had a condesate trap? - It isn't a condensing boiler is it??

can't be tripping out overheat stat - as not even getting hot...

Just found out fan isn't working - must be pump I can hear.

God I hate boilers - Corgi man better and on his way though - which is good news.
