Painting new plaster

Hi,

can a newly plastered wall be painted direct or does some sort of sealant/prima have to be applied?

you could paint first with a mist coat to reduce the absorbancy of the new plaster.

mist coat - 1 part pva, 1 part emulsion, 4 parts water.

careful if you are rollering though as it sprays everywhere.

Thanks for the response SSB.

So the reason is that the new plaster will absorb allot of the paint?

Would i be able to get away with just giving the walls an extra coat or just apply the first coat a bit thicker with the roller?

Ive never heard of adding pva but someone may correct me

Water down a good emulsion and stay the hell away from viynle silk for your first coat

Agree jbond... pva would surely negate using non vinylised paint specially for new plaster...and be akin to using Vinyl Silk ..........ahh silk, and latex too
