I am about to wire a 2 story extension but only going to use1 ring main for all sockets (11) in total. Cable should be less than 100m so don't have a problem with that. But what I'm not sure about is the regulations regarding socket height. do I need to instal as for new build (persons with limited reach etc), or can I keep my new sockets to the same height as the rest of the house

I would think as it is a new build the building regs will apply and hence your sockets and switches will need to be at the height stated in the building regs. Your LABC officer will be able to tell you for certain. Where did you get the idea of 100m of cable from? A ring final should not cover in excess of 100m² of floor surface area, your cable length will depend on volt drop and efli.

Thanx Spark123, must have misread the bit about the cable length..read somewhere that no limit on sockets over 100m2 ...misunderstood that to mean cable length...total floor space will be well short of that, so hopefully still not a problem for 11 sockets...also read somewhere that the new regs only applied to new build not extensions or ring extensions, but will check with LABC.....Thanx again
