Hi all, Got myself a DMF 10 (ok got it off ebay...) was brand new in box with bosch warranty seal but even when on a wooden table it insisted on detecting mains voltage. I sent it back and got a replacement - also new - but does the same thing, otherwise its fine, detects studs/metal ok just that it indicates mains almost all the time. Has anyone else had issues with this or similar issues with voltage detectors?

Thanks

Obviously your table isn't properly earthd

Sorry. Never had any joy with any of these devices

Not to worry, it detects studs fine and metal fine (I set up a mock with some old plasterboard and bits and bobs). I'll use my el-cheapo for detecting mains.

Thanks

Ok, Figured it out.
If I hold the dtector with one hand, place the other hand on the wall somwehere near to it, it doesnt falsly detect mains, dont know why! A friend who has a detector had the same problem but his manual told him the solution.
Though I'd post incase anyone has similar issues with a deector

I was thinking about buying a detector but when finding reviews..most of them seem pretty rubbish.. but still could be life saving with mains

I have had the cheapo ones in the past and found them unreliable and inaccurate. I do quite like this one, detects mains, metal, and studs. Now I figured the mains thing I am very happy with it.
