Hi All,

I have searched these forums, but have not been able to find a similar problem:

When I run a hot tap for a long while i.e. if I run a shower (the shower is just a shower head connected to the bath taps), then turn the tap off, a few seconds later the boiler makes a very loud gravelly, metallic, gurgling noise, which locks the boiler out. The boiler can be reset, but this is now happening every day when the hot tap is turned off after running a shower. The hot water is also constantly very hot and needs turning down slightly anyway (not sure if that may be related).

The boiler in question is a Potterton combi boiler (I can get the exact model name if needed).

Many thanks.

This is a Potterton Puma ( or Combi 80 as contract name ).

The DHW flow switch is sticking in the on position after DHW use.

Thanks Agile/Tony,

So, will the DHW switch need replacing? Is this a serious problem if not resolved asap? And what does DHW stand for?

Cheers

Direct Hot Water.

Repeatedly causing it to overheat is likely to cause other damage so it should be sorted out pretty quickly.

The DHW flow switch consists of a diaphragm unit and an actual switch. The malfunction can be any combination of problems associated with these.

Either you could try replacing both if you are competent or you could call someone familiar with this model who can see exactly whats gone wrong.
