Condensation was bad in the bathroom of my daughter\\\'s apartment, even though the extractor fan was operating. On checking the fan is blowing air into the bathroom and not sucking air out. The red wires to switch and live and black to neutal are correctly connected, and there is no switch to change the direction of the fan. Excuse the naive question, but would switching the live and neutral connections reverse the fan direction, or is that very stupid?

Not stupid. It works that way with most DC motors but not with AC motor.

But for your daughter's bath room the whole fan unit needs to be turned round in the ducting. The flexible duct can be normally slid off the fan. Turn the whole fan unit fan round and slide the flexible ducts back on.
