A nice lady gave me a load of bricks, most of which I need to clean before using to build a raised bed for the garden. What's the best technique and tool(s) for doing this please? I was assuming a brick hammer was the way to go.

I demolished an old carport wall to reclaim around 600 bricks I needed to infill some window openings & replace an existing extension front wall.

Depending on where & how much mortar was stuck to the brick, I used a combination of bolster & cold chisels, a blunt nose drift (a sort of chisel with an almost square edge on it) & a welder's chipping hammer It's laborious & time consuming but if your using the bricks for a garden feature, you probably wont have to be so fussy.

Thanks for your advice - anyway tried using an SDS rotary hammer for this job?
