Hi, I have recently fitted a hotpoint hob and seperate oven underneath. Both work fine except the 'on' light on the hob comes on when turning on the power rather than just when turning on an individual ring. Could this be a problem with the wiring or does it point to the hob being faulty.

Is it there to indicate that there is power to the unit, or is it there to indicate when a ring has been turned on?
What do the instructions say?

The instructions say that it should only come on when a ring is turned on.

I had that with a ceramic hob when one on the knob controls got old (I think it was not turning off fully).

If you have just bought it new, check that it is not operating per instructions, then make a warranty claim.
