Hi there,

I have just bought a replacement 1930s door and want to fit a door lock which has a key.
The 1930s lock that came with the door did not have a key so I have taken it out and space it leaves is too narrow and not high enough to fit a morden lock.

What is the best to make the hole vacated by a door lock wider and taller?
The depth is o.k

Should I use a thin chisel or rasp to widen the hole to accommodate the modern lock?

Thanks

mark out for the new lock, covering the old hole.
then if there is enough timber?use a drill and spade bit/auger bit to take out the excess, then use a chisel and hammer to pare off to fit.

obviously this all depends on wether you are a hands on type of person,if not then maybe to save mistakes find a chippy or handy person to do this for you.

Or get in a locksmith, they will do it in half an hour.
If any good..................
