outside heaters

But even you must know that 3 x 1.5kW = 4.5kW

A glance at your electricity bill will tell you what you pay for a kilwatthour, so running costs should not have been a surprise

So it's OK for someone to post here about their contribution to global warming - WHICH KILLS PEOPLE, IN CASE YOU'VE FAILED TO GRASP THAT - via the utterly selfish approach of trying to heat the outside rather than put on a jumper or go indoors, but it's unhelpful and abusive and therefore forbidden to call them a clot?

Just how did you get to be so twisted?

Save money by not running the cables and powering them off a generator. When you see how much petrol you get through you'll never use them again ;)

Is the Suffolk Riviera so cold that outdoor heating is required in the middle of summer?

Unfortunately the labour smoking ban has left pubs and similar who wan't to keep their smoking patrons with little choice but to go down the road of creating spaces that are as comfortable as possible while still being legaly outdoors.
No - they also have the choice of not destroying the planet just to sell a few more pints of beer.

"Labour" smoking ban?

Care to offer odds on when the new non-Labour government will repeal it?

ok lets spell it out a bit for them :D

if you pay say 13p per kw and your running 3.9kw=50p an hour
assuming its a pub and the average in the winter is say 8 hrs for 3 months on average
thats 8hrs x50p=£4 a day 28 per week 120 a month £360 per winter season for the 6 or 7 smokers so in my equasion [complete guesses of course ] each smoker costs 50p towards the out door running cost per day !!

you STILL can't go to pubs if you're a non smoker since you have to walk through the cloud that the selfish smokers cause right by the front door rather than walking away from it a bit..
it all just wafts back in from the open windows anyway..

they ought to make it legal indoor if they have a specific aproved smoking room.
this would be a sealed room with a filtered extract fan and a double door "airlock" to get into the bar area.
no beer would be served in there so the barstaff don't have to breathe in the second hand smoke.

And they thought smoking shelters were expensive.

Pity the poor sod that has to clean in there too. Admittedly I am an ex-smoker so I have the worst tolerance possible of the habit and it is just a guess but I bet CJ is too.

Some years ago (before the smoking ban) I worked in an office block which had a smoking room.
It had a normal door with rubber seals on it, no windows and a domestic cheap extractor fan as the only ventilation.

Everything in the room was dark yellow. It was obvious that no one cleaned in there ever. Yet smokers were quite happy to smoke and eat in there.

i too am a smoker (or is that social-leper nowadays?)

Personally i have no problem with the smoking ban, i don't smoke in my own home and do not have a problem with exiting a building to smoke in the free air that is not owned by anybody.

However, I think the OTT eco-nazis should cocoon themselves in bubblewrap and an oxygen tent if they still have a problem with people who wish to smoke outside in the free air which is owned by nobody. FGS, it is a free country and subject to reasonable provisions for your neighbours and countrymen (or 'countrypersons', just incase therer are any equal rights nazis reading this) then the 'free' part of this country should be just that - free!
If you are really that scared about pollutants, may i suggest you stay in your dis-infected home and do not consume any energy of any sort for any reason and allow your fellow neighbours and countryfolk the freedom to kill themselves how ever they see fit.

As to heating the open air. I think it is an utter waste of money and something i would never do at my home (a fire pit is far better solution IMO and lends a certain desirable ambiance to an autumn evening outdoors) However, if a pub manager has done his sums and evaluated the business worth of such an installation and it does not contravene any regulation, then why does anyone feel they should get on their high horse and try to preach to the customer or their installer?

shades of grey :p
