Accenta 6 Burglar Alarm - No Code

And like in every other post about a malfunctioning alarm panel the first thing always said is

REPLACE THE BATTERY.

Not do a search did we?

Well to be honest, thats why im using this forum, after all im not an alarm expert. And yes, i did do a quick search, but everyones circumstances are different and as i stated, i don't want to splash out on a batt if it won't fix the alarm. Now i know this is needed, i will attempt to simulate the battery 12 volts using an old power supply i have got.

Please post the result, can't wait to find out what happened.

Please do, tell us how you can retrieve a dead SLA battery.
I get the impression that he's going to connect the "old power supply" to the battery leads.

Should be interesting ;)

Well Alarm, i simply connected a 12 Volt 5 amp power supply to the battery terminals on the PCB. I joined this forum and have been asking these questions to try and get help and advice from professionals or people who have dealt with these alarms and im not sure why you post the things you do.

No, im not an alarm engineer but i do have an electrical engineering background. The manual states to disconnect the power, but is that just mains or mains and battery?? And 9651 who has been helpful, says to work on the alarm live, but again, is this alive as in just mains, or battery or both?

Anyway, ive tried various resets, the ones described in the engineers manual and the one mentioned by 9651 and i just get the same result every time. When i try to reset to factory settings, the RKP is showing Attack, Day and Power LED's, and when i try to reset the codes, the RKP keys are backlit but no LED's are lit.

Thanks to those that have spent the time and effort giving me helpful advice, it is appreciated.

You connected a 12v PSU to the battery terminals of the PCB?
May i ask what you thought would happen?

And in light of your questions, did you per chance apply 240V at same time as the 12V ?

I thought the PSU would simulate the battery and yes i applied mains power with the 12V applied. Am i missing something here?? I mean the battery is dead and i dont want to spend any money on something that may not work, so throwing 12 volts to the battery terminals should simulate a good battery. And again, the alarm shows no change, the RKP is just sounding all the time.

Which leads to my post maybe 3rd or 4th from your OP........

Bin it.
Just make sure all the mains is off first.
You will need a ladder to get to the external bell too, or if your lucky the battery will fade out after a while with no power to it. 15 to 45 mins depending on the sounder.

~Its old there is better out there

But of course you have far more electrical experience than me. As you had to ask here for a problem a simple 5 mins with a multi meter would have proved.

I worry when you say "I thought", a thought is a last ditch attempt when logic and training has failed.

You did say you were an electronics engineer?

No, if you read my post correctly, i said i was an electrical engineer not electronic, there is a huge difference, and something i did many years ago. And no, im not claiming to be an expert otherwise i wouldn't be posting here. I knew the battery was dead at the start of this post, i just failed to mention it, again that is down to my lack of knowledge with alarms.

I have just moved to this house, and money is obviously tight. I was just hoping to get the alarm working with little or no cost attached to it. The reset procedure in the manual seems very simple, but it doesn't work for me, and hence i was hoping some kind folk could give me some advice. Maybe your right and i should just bin it, but like i said, i was just seeing if i could of fixed it.

And yes, this is a last ditch effort before i bin it, and i said i thought it would simulate the battery as the post prevoiusly seemed to suggest this wouldnt work.

A little knowledge is dangerous!

A dead battery is a dead battery. Fannying about like you did was not what most would call good practice.

Now do yourself a favour, make it safe at the mains, rip it out and get a new one...and battery.

Can you please explain exactly how i have been dangerous? I mean is putting 12 volts across the battery input terminals really that bad? All i was trying to do was reset this alarm to see if it would actaully work.

Right, so you failed to say your experience was yrs ago.
You failed to mention the dead battery, yet all and sundry said its the issue.
You flaffed about and got the same result as before.

You then try and defend your position.

We told you it was bin fodder, as well as needing to change the panel it needed a new battery.

Where did we not assist?

A typical, I know better. Will ask but argue with the answers given.

hi dave i think there was a version on the accenta where you have to press reset on power up to default the codes, will a have a dig around for the manual. mark you could allways give it a try.

No it was links to be removed/added.

Did you miss the other points?
Must have done................

You`ll get there in the end.
