Are plumbers significantly quieter in summer - is it a good time of year to get a new boiler installed or does it make no difference?

I guess they could just as busy as in winter due to doing all the fit/finish work from peoples spring build projects.

Just wondering...

In an ideal world all installs and servicing should be done in the summer, and the winter saved for breakdowns.

This is an excellent time, unless your man's on holiday. Don't wait until the last quarter, everybody else does just that, and any installer who is any good will be frantic with work.

I've just been speaking to a guy and he's available (or very flexible) for most of next week, I was worried it might be a bad sign if he doesn't have a huge amount of work on...

It's tough out there for the self-employed. This is the quietest time of year, he may be available now, grab him while you can. He is likely to be much busier later on. I used to refuse work in November that I would have been pleased to do in May.

Such is the current climate that most tradesmen are not exactly rushed off their feet.

Get a couple of references and check them out.

References?

I would never give any customer's details to someone else. Nor do I expect any would want to be bothered.

Most of the people wanting references can be quite pushy too. Whilst I can understand their concerns, the question of references is plagued with problems and potentially fraud.

How would a dentist or doctor respond if you asked them for references?

Yes Stay well away from polish plumbers an old couple I know had one do some work when they complained about something he came round threatened to kill them the next door neighbour heard him called the police
He then hit the old man and a copper then tried to get to the neighbour in the end he got four years and is going home after he's done his time

January / February tends to be the quietest time, for us at least. Whether your local plumbers are busy seems to vary according to where you are in the country, we're mad busy down here but guys elsewhere seem to be quiet.

He's a one man band and seems straight up to me. I've been fixing/serving my old boiler for the last five years and so far my bullshit radar hasn't bleeped. Google only turns up good results. He's british, not that it should matter really... I'll press on then!

Have you bleeped anyones bull***t radar in the last 5 years?

If this person has given you reliable service for 5 years what further collateral do you need?
