Got to destroy XXX floppy disks.

No, not ones with pron on ( :) ), that was to indicate the number I have.

At the moment, I am prising them open and shredding the actual disk.

It is slow going....

Anyone have any ideas about how to destroy the data quickly (excluding fire)?

Quick, IR is coming.... (only kidding!)

Seriously, wipe a strong magnet over them.

Or don't bother: I don't know anyone who still has the means of reading them!

A quick way to make the discs un-readable is to drill holes through them. While this doesn't destroy the data it would almost certainly damage the head of any disc drive that was used to try and read them. A blunt drill bit will create hole with jagged edges thus more damaging. With a pillar drill you can do several at a time.

Bulk erasers ( very powerful electromagnets ) do the job quite well. It may still be possible to hire them.

Putting the discs on an induction hob under a saucepan and then a couple of second on boost might be enough to wipe the data.

Induction hob? Interesting!

Thanks for the suggestions. In the end, I carried on what I'd started.

Not much to show for 300 disks:

Perhaps I could sell it on ebay to an IT-mad couple who are planning to get hitched as confetti??

Just out of interest, why did you want not to burn them?

What I did, having several thousands of these old 3.5 inch disk was to use a Stanley knife, slide the metallic window back, slice the disk, thus rendering the disk un-readable?
Am I on about the same disk type?
These disks I needed to destroy, were used in a large now very primitive Sony Camera
But as has been noted in this thread, it is doubtful if anyone has a reader, it was generally referred to as the A drive.
Still the old 3.5 Inch was a lot better than the original really, really floppy 5 Inch ones? that I used in my original Amstrad 502 with no hard drive all the information needed to drive the so called Computer was on the 5 Inch Floppy, happy primitive days
