How old is the boiler
What boiler have you chosen as a replacement?
Nope. Was the boiler clicking before he started working on it?
Nope.
Bodd - Boiler is over 15 years
Dilalio - Going for Vaillant EcoFit 830 pure
I'm not going to cancel the new boiler fitting because I think that would be a c***tish thing to do to the new fitter. I don't like messing people about. I'm going to justify it by saying to myself 'well it was time the boiler was changed anyway'
And just as a note the original guy that came and told me 'I need a new boiler' after he'd fitted a new diverter was OVER £500 more expensive on the quote for the newboiler than the guy that I have coming to do it for EXACTLY the same Vaillant EcoFit 830 Pure boiler! I have to wonder if it was all a case of "Looks at boiler, rubs chin, shakes head, says 'Oh it's gonna expensive mate, gonna need a new boiler" when in reality it needed a new rubber washer kit in the diverter.
Good you haven't cancelled the new boiler, just put it down to bad luck and move on, life's too short.
You may be able to sell the new bit on Ebay to recoup some money?.
Unfortunately it is an Industry wide problem, very few proper apprenticeships now and far too many companies, only want to hire staff who have done a fast trac course, who in reality have very little fault finding experience, some are concientious and go out of their way to learn breakdown skills, but far too many are know it alls and dont need any trainingHey I'm getting a new boiler, and it's gonna have thermostat that we can control from the phone. We've never had a thermostat ever in this house so it's going to be something beautiful (Not entirely sure what difference a thermostat will do, if it's cold we put the heating on, if not we turn it off.
I did have a quick look on eBay, that new part is almost half the price on there than it was at City Plumbing. But yeah like you say, move on.
I just have NEVER been lucky with heating engineers with this boiler, finally when I did find a good trustworthy one who actually knew what he was doing, well he retired soon after lol.
Thanks for everyones help
When he drained the boiler with PRV it started ringing bells. Naturally now it won't close properly on the assumtion that there's a teeny bit of debris in it, it's just dripping from the overflow. But nevermind new boiler tomorrow.Unfortunately it is an Industry wide problem, very few proper apprenticeships now and far too many companies, only want to hire staff who have done a fast trac course, who in reality have very little fault finding experience, some are concientious and go out of their way to learn breakdown skills, but far too many are know it alls and dont need any training

For what it is worth, a heating engineer does not have time or foresight to order parts for a boiler that he does not know he will get a call to look at and order parts for it from fleabay beforehand. Furthermore, a part sourced by mail order, if he was to instal said part, should it fail and need replacing, the end user will not have grace to let the boiler be switched off for number of days until replacement part arrives
What will be demanded is part be replaced forthwith without delay. Therefore, getting a part from ebay, for the heating engineer is not viable
Same goes for the end user supplying boiler or parts without first agreeing if that is acceptable. Consider a situation where I am given a part by the end user, the part is in a box that is falling apart, part gets fitted, boiler gets switched on and part does not work. I demand payment, he is not happy as boiler is not working, fact remains he is the supplier and my Labour is chargeable.
I have at times agreed to fit items supplied by the end user if agreed previously. Recently booked parts for a boiler, arrived to fit, enduser wanted to discuss with wife so I returned the parts as mint condition and not fitted or opened from packaging, back to the suppler. He phones a few days later asking me to fit parts he had sourced from eBay. Told him I was busy with booked calls and to get someone else
