Some bloke in Alabama is going to be executed with a nitrogen mask in the next few hours ?

Apparently a world first fir the caper

He can’t have a last meal due to the danger of him throwing up in the air tight mask ??

All this because apparently they cannot get the relevant drugs for a lethal injection ??

Dunno why they can’t just go to the local vets and pick some up ???

Apparently they tried to bump him off last year but it all went t&t s up due not being able to find a vein to stick the needle in ????

Anyone who deals with liquid nitrogen is/should be, acutely aware of the risks of nitrogen asphyxiation.
It has killed technicians before and is a huge risk for any rescuers, who may not realise why a colleague has collapsed...

It is usually a quick way to go, and without oxygen depletion warning systems, you may not even notice it happening.

Blimey perhaps they should ask the Swiss as to what they are using at digni tas clinic ??

Any country that allows a state execution whatever the means is not a civilised country!

Bloke stabbed some woman to death for payment

Smoking gun evidence his partner in crime was bumped off a while back

Guilty as charged bump him off and good riddance to bad rubbish

35 years on death row. Must have cost millions in appeal hearings and keeping him all these years on The Row. And some daft idiots in the UK think the death penalty is a good idea.

Shmucks.

Exactly should have been bumped off way back

The cost of keeping some of these scum bags in prison

100 grand a year in broadmoor per fruit cake

Before or after the trial?

After the trial

This is the UK not dire ear a Stan

Diminished realisability would not be an excuse or result in a non bump off verdict

That bloke who recently stabbed 3 people would be 6 foot under with in a fortnight ???

Edit although I do have flexability on the time frame

35yrs on death row- what a joke. That's pretty much a life sentence and now they want to execute him.

The whole business seems contrived to me.

Why the need for an air tight mask - a small room filled with nitrogen would asphysxiate in seconds.
The room wouldn't even need to be that well sealed.
LN2 isn't expensive, although investment needs to be made to handle it.
LN2, expands into a gas 700x greater in volume - a small Dewar could provide 17'500l of Nitrogen - hence the dangers of asphyxia and explosive expansion.

If capital punishment were necessary (and I don't believe it is); this all seems to provide a simple means to kill.
So why the air tight mask etc.
Why not just wait until the prisoner was asleep and pump nitrogen into the room?
It seems that death in itself, is not the entire goal.
A macabre device with a mask, jeopardy over whether this will work and observing fear in the prisoner, all appear to be part of the 'spectacle'.

Could it be that nitrogen hasn't been used before, because it would be too straightforward?

This is one reason why I can never agree with capital punishment - it has always been about the exhibition (and may unwittingly make the prisoner, a star) - would you catch the underground to go and see a hanging? https://londonist.com/london/undergroundtoapublichanging

This is a part of humanity that I've never been comfortable with.
