Essex flange replacement

The guy's had his HW stat set at 65, right at the bottom of the cylinder, so the 55C rating of the original rubber has been somehat exceeded.

Now it looks orrible and is leaking a fair bit.

I've fitted plenty of Essex flanges but not replaced one. Has anyone had trouble doing so - assuming the hole's the right size!
There's plenty of limescale around , but I'm wondering if the copper could have eroded.

looking at that chris i would expect the copper to have thined around it .Would be telling them will do my best but cylinder may need changing

Chris , its about risk , I wouldn`t change it I would order new cylinder and fit a salamander s flange .

Thanks, that's about what I thought.
One little detail - the cylinder won't come out through the door of its cupboard
So the "fix" for the leaky washer may be to send the lad in there with a ciprocating saw and put an unvented in the loft.
Then there's just the asbestos problem.....

Expensive washer!

Chris bes do a 2 1/4 inch essex flange hell of a size but it should allow for all the damage around existing hole to be cut away and then bush it down. Not the prettiest solution but saves touching asbestos etc

i was just thinking the same thing, at least this way you get to remove the old one and plan on a straight replacement, then if there is a problem and the same size cant be fitted you have at least one option before any major re-configuration and asbestos related job etc.

Looking at that pic though, i'd say there will almost certainly be some thinning and more than likely some corrosion damage around the hole.... wonder what the inside of that cylinder is like
