    Shower Mixer

Hi all, The temperature of the hot water taps is being controlled by the shower mixer even when the shower is turned off. People have mentioned before about fitting a non return valve but surely if the shower is turned off the position of the temperature control shouldn't make any difference...

Fitting 15mm Isolation Valve to 15mm or 1/2 inch copper pipe

So 15mm olives should be OK, it might just need a bit of elbow work on the pipe to get them to fit?

Fitting 15mm Isolation Valve to 15mm or 1/2 inch copper pipe

Hi, I need to replace an isolation valve as it leaks through the screw when turned off (I need to repair a leaking joint above so might as well change the valve at the same time) so reading through this forum I may have either 15mm or 1/2 inch copper pipes (house is 150 plus years old and...

    Leaking Toilet,

I'll most probably give it a go as the isolating valve leaks through the screw when you turn it off.

    Leaking Toilet,

Ah, there could lie the proble, there is no fibre washer. As for teh misalignment I think who ever done the plumbing in the house before we bought it made somewhat of a bodge job as you should see some of the ways things are connected up. I'll have another go.

    Leaking Toilet,

Hi, The toilet has a leak where the copper pipe joins the cistern ball valve which I'm having problems stopping. The main problem seems to be that the copper pipe does not align properly with the ball valve plastic pipe. Not being a plumber I've tried to tighten it up, used PTFE tape...

    Varying HW Temp

Hi, By varying the water temp control on the shower mixer I can vary the temp of the hot water from other taps around the house. This is a pain as I have to go upstairs to vary the temp control (to max heat) every time I want very hot water downstairs instead of warm. The cold water supply is...

    Installing CCTV - newbie

Hi, Due to increased vandalism to cars and kids running riot across the back gardens I'm thinking of installing a CCTV system. However, I know very little about them apart from what I've seen at maplins, etc. My requirements would be (I think): : Up to 4 cameras with 2 working at night with...

    Hot water hot/cold/hot/cold....

OK, further update. The gas man has been and changed the flow rate valve with little or no difference made to the problem. He has said the system may need cleaning (which you have all suggested, many thanks) but has made no mention of changing the heat exchanger. From what the other half...

    Hot water hot/cold/hot/cold....

OK, many thanks for all the responses. All I need to do know is convince the gasman what to do. I thought the central heating system was drained & refilled when the boiler was fitted but obviously they didn't clean it. Is it a big job to clean it out? Regards Chris

    Hot water hot/cold/hot/cold....

Would you expect it to sludge up so quick, the combi was only fitted approx 6 years ago although the central heating system is somewhat older.

    Hot water hot/cold/hot/cold....

Further info: Before the gasman changed the DV the pressure in the system was always kept at about 1 Bar. After the DV was changed it was pressurized to approx 1.5+ Bar. Would this cause the problem? Thanks Chris

    Hot water hot/cold/hot/cold....

Hi, Further update. The gas man has been and they seem to think it is the Flow Rate valve. Does this sound correct as it was diagnosed over the phone? Thanks Chris

    Hot water hot/cold/hot/cold....

More info: Would this cause the water temp to be below normal as well? The temp has been slowly decreasing over a period of time. The only way we can get a decent temp is to keep the taps on a slow setting. The CH works fine if the hot taps are kept turned off but starts cutting out as...
