    Ashley & Rock CU

Having said that... From the look of the picture of that RCBO, it won't fit in that CU. It's longer on the bottom side so I don't think it would fit, check before buying.

    Ashley & Rock CU

Ok, had a call back, and since a lot of people have asked about these I'll post up the details here, hopefully will help someone else. Merlin Gerin current MCBs will work as a direct replacement for the red labelled Supasafe breakers. Part No.s for a couple : B32 = C60HB132 B6 =...

    Ashley & Rock CU

I have a 10 year old Ashley & Rock CU, with the red labelled Supasafe breakers in it, and I need to find more, specifically a 6A and 32A MCB, and possibly a 6A RCBO. I've searched on here and done some more digging, and here's what I have found. Ashley & Rock is no more. They were taken...

Part P 17th, Smoke Alarms, Existing Circuits

Could he not just take the smoke circuit and move it across the RCD side and shuffle everything along, still leaving the two spare ways? I would have thought this possible, even if it means a new bus bar, which is a couple of quid. Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Part P 17th, Smoke Alarms, Existing Circuits

This one has reared it's ugly head again. To Recap: I have a CU with two spare ways which I need for a new ringmain and lighting circuit in the new garage conversion to an office. Building inspector wants a smoke detector in the room adjacent to the garage, which is the room the CU is in...

    Cable widths and Socket Heights

That's great, thanks guys. With respects lighting circuits in ceilings, what is the SOP for cable routing and joists? Over? Under? Through? Make a notch at the bottom?

    Cable widths and Socket Heights

Unlikely that I would, just trying to anticipate if the sparky said "you've got a lot on here, better put in a 40A breaker", and wondering if a 40A circuit needed thicker cable... Well the one in question is actually a fused spur on the lighting circuit.. for a low level lighting fixture to...

    Cable widths and Socket Heights

Just a quick couple of questions, I'm checking some cabling and wondering is this still correct for current regs? 32A Ringmain : 2.5mm T&E 6A Lighting : 1.0mm T&E If the ringmain was changed to 40A breaker, is thicker cable required or is 2.5mm OK for a 40A circuit as well? These circuits...

Cat5 cable and where they connect to?

What you're effectively doing is using two wall sockets as two make-shift one port patch panels, in which case standard cabling layout, no crossover required. Use the 568-B layout on both ends and you should be fine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TIA/EIA-568-B Shows the layout for the...

    Aircon Unit and Ringmain

I don't suppose it makes any difference that it's Energy Rated A for efficiency? I already have a portable aircon unit which is upstairs which just plugs into a 13A socket, this new one comes with a 13 amp plug and so I expect it would do the same, I just wanted to make a better job of it...

    Aircon Unit and Ringmain

I'm converting a garage and have two free slots on the CU, which I need for the ringmain and lighting circuit which will go in there. I also want to put in a fixed Aircon unit, 3Kw, and I want to know if I can put this on the new ringmain or if there are any regs which say it must be on it's...

Part P 17th, Smoke Alarms, Existing Circuits

I don't believe the old ones are interlinked. Not sure what this means in relation to the new one. You've hit the nail on the head, this is the bit which is catching me. The new smoke detector will be directly next to the CU, less than 3ft between them, and the cable would run in the...

Part P 17th, Smoke Alarms, Existing Circuits

Yes, the new window in the garage has two fire escape opening windows in it, and there is an outside door in the utility room adjoining the garage ( where the CU is located, and where the BCO wants the smoke detector ).

Part P 17th, Smoke Alarms, Existing Circuits

The new smoke detector would be about 3ft from the CU  The existing smoke circuit must lead out from the CU, so the proximity should make it relatively easy to add another spur from it, my guess is it would be in the ceiling.

Part P 17th, Smoke Alarms, Existing Circuits

Basically I'm hoping to avoid a whole new CU just because of a smoke detector. Building inspector wants a smoke detector in the utility (because the office (nee garage) has no external door). Yes, already notified and had several visits from BCO. The problem will be about getting Part P...
