    50mm Drill bit

Quite right JimCrow 25% of the depth, I have corrected my comment so as not to spread misinformation. I have a hole saw, I just don't have one that will go through 200mm of wood. typically they only go about 35mm deep. There does not seem to be such a thing a wood core drill bit for that...

    50mm Drill bit

For anyone else reading this thread it should be pointed out that even if the timber was a structural floor joist (which is it not) it is usually acceptable to drill a hole up to 1/4 of the timber depth. Which in this case would be 50mm. Although it would need to be along the neutral axis, in a...

    50mm Drill bit

Thanks Tony, that was sounds like a sensible plan. I was hoping that there may be some sort of tool or Special drill bit I was missing.

    50mm Drill bit

I know that diamond core drill bits are not designed for wood and I am pretty sure it is going to heat up and ruin the bit, does anyone have any helpful comments about how to solve the problem?

    50mm Drill bit

Let's assume that I know what the timbers are doing and drilling holes in them is not an issue.

    50mm Drill bit

I need to drill through 2x 8"x2" timbers sat next to each other and through a thermolight block wall behind it for a 40mm shower waste. Do I just go ahead and use my diamond core drill bit or is there something I can use to go through the wood first?

    Carage gutter on vertical wall

I was thinking along the lines of a leaded box gutter but the garage is 32 foot long and I am thinking that it will cost a lot of money to make. Is there not some sort of recessed guttering system?

    Carage gutter on vertical wall

I am almost finished on a Hip to Gable loft conversion which has a garage that roof that drains towards the Gable end. There is currently a Gutter in place that used to be shared by the Hip roof and the Garage. Now that the main roof does not drain into the gutter I no longer have an overhang to...

Splicing existing ridge beam to new on Hip to Gable loft conversion

I am doing a Hip to Gable loft conversion where the main part of the loft has oreviously been converted. I need to splice and extra 4m ridge onto the existing ridge but I am not able to find any sensible information on how to best achive this. Building control suggested Butt joint them with two...

    Structural walls in bungalow

In preperation for doing a self build loft conversion I need to identify the supporting walls. I have mapped out how the ceiling joists run and where they end. I am right in thinking that any wall with a ceiling joist end resting on it must be structural? Green lines are ceiling joists...

    Steel beam required?

Yes, the main section of the bungalow runs front to back with a central wall but everything left of the hallway runs side to side.

    Steel beam required?

At what size of Dormer and length of ridge do you actually need to use an RSJ to support the Ridge? We have a Bungalow where I am doing a hip to gable conversion as below: There is an existing loft extension , it occupies the loft space in the main section of the roof. I am...
