Leaking union on water main pipe

Yes, dug out some soil and was able to turn it off fine. Turned freely. That's the first time I've had to turn it off in the street, it's an 11 year old new(ish) build/modern house, whatever you want to call it. Had to tell the neighbours kids to stop putting stuff down there last year, but the...

Leaking union on water main pipe

Fixed it earlier. Needed a new coupler as the old one had a split in it. Thought I needed a 22mm x 1" but turned out it was 22mm x3/4"...how is that measured?

Leaking union on water main pipe

Thanks. I've just been out to try and turn off the supply but I can't seem to find it. I suspect I need to dig out all the soil around the water meter.

Leaking union on water main pipe

Hi all, I've just noticed a leak from the main water pipe that comes up out the floor (under sink), it's leaking on a union before the stopcock but I'm not sure which nut(s) to tighten. Please see photo, it's leaking from the thread where I've pointed with the arrow. Help appreciated. Thanks.

Drilling into a concrete floor to fit a safe

oh, there's plenty of other things in the house; by the time they've taken the TV, computers etc, they wont have time for a safe. I'm not in a high crime area anyway.

Drilling into a concrete floor to fit a safe

I know what you mean. I have a Sentry fire chest too but the one I'm referring to in this thread is a bank-type, though it's not huge. This is the one... http://www.thesafeshop.co.uk/products/firestar-home-safe-medium.html

Drilling into a concrete floor to fit a safe

Thanks. So I'll need really long fixings then. I guess there is no point trying to fix it to the screed as it will be too weak and crumble?

Drilling into a concrete floor to fit a safe

Thanks. I guess I can get longer fixings than the ones supplied. Is there a standard depth the screed should be? Attached photo is the flooring before the carpet was fitted. The other shows what the concrete blocks, which are under the screed? (not my actual house but from the same development)

Drilling into a concrete floor to fit a safe

Hi, I have a fireproof safe that needs to be fixed to a concrete floor in my house. The house is 5 years old and has a concrete floor but I was wondering if it is ok to drill down 70mm? Would there be anything in the floor like water pipes? I know the wiring is in the walls. The safe is to be...

Replacing basic room thermostat for programmable type

Just wired the old thermostat back and it does the same if it's turned right down and set the CH side to 'on'...both the CH and HW turn on. If the controller is set to 'timed' on the CH side and the Advance button is pressed, the same happens. This controller was a replacement after the old...

Replacing basic room thermostat for programmable type

Thanks all. I've done that but something is not right. The central heating and hot water is on all the time when I set the controller to 'on' on the CH side regardless if the thermostat is 'on' or 'off' (flame symbol showing/not showing) Any ideas please? Thanks again.

Replacing basic room thermostat for programmable type

Hi all, Trying to replace a basic room thermostat for a programmable type but not sure I have the right one. It's a wired connection and both are the same brand, Drayton. The old one is a Drayton RTS1 and the replacement one is a Digistat +3 model 22083 (battery type). Looking at them I think...

help needed to wire tv distribution kit in loft

So it's ok to do this? I've just been up in to the loft (in a house) to see about getting power up there for the same thing and the socket I was going to spur off already has a spur (which runs up the wall across in the loft and down in to a bedroom).
