john, I agree there should be a limit on benefits that be claimed by new immigrants. We thrive as a nation on the skills that immigrants bring us, we have to be careful though that we dont become so hostile in keeping the benefit claimants out that we discourage others.

BAS, genuine question, why will it be notifiable? He appears to be relocating a socket using exisitng wiring and not creating a new circuit, or working in a kitchen / bathroom (from what the OP has said).

Yes first time cover has been off, it does not exactly look like a work of art! Sparkie coming in morning, sent picture and we had a chat on the phone, have thrown the fuses that are affected and CU is now cool and smell has gone. Will discuss whether further investigation / work is required...
