    Wireless 'two-channel' programmer control possible?

Thanks very much for that, will look into it. Sounds a bit of hassle but I see how it would work around the problem - so most wireless roomstats are geared up for combi boilers then?

    Wireless 'two-channel' programmer control possible?

Hi Wonder if someone can shed some light on this very 'grey' topic for me. We have a Halstead Best 60 boiler, Gravity Feed hot water to a cylinder in loft and pumped CH. Currently this is controlled by a Potterton 2000 timer. For Hot water I can slide a switch and when the timer activates...

    MetPosts - re-use or forget?

Hi Looking to completely replace fence, posts seem to be held in with MetPosts. Dug around one today and had a bash at extracting the existing (rotting) post but it seems securely fastened into the MetPost. Looks like I have the MetPosts without the bolts on. Can anyone suggest an easy way...

    Render product?

Was it K-Rend? I had a few quotes for that and it was quite a bit more than cement. In the end I went with a good renderer using cement/lime and 'Bristol Dredge' I think, sand with seashell bits, he's done a fantastic job covering up my DIY blockwork. :)

Was reading on the old forums - Plumbing - about using pipe springs to try and clear blockage (I guess thats only for short distances) and also about using some chemicals to break down the bloackage which may be more want you ought to try in your case (before channeling out the wall!). Have a...

    Concrete Hardstanding

Right, as usual I have had a look around and cannot find anything to quite match my question! I have an existing hardstanding which is now the base of my garage, which I have built up around it. The hardstanding has a slight slope on it allowing water to 'flow' into the garage rather than...

Insulating Detached Garage - have I got the right idea?

Thanks for those last few comments, though wiedzmin I dont think I will be adding external insulation to the garage (though I am only down the road from Swindon funnily enough!) So, AND1C, did you look at the link to celotex? http://www.celotex.co.uk/downloads/SolidMasonryWalls.pdf Its just...

Insulating Detached Garage - have I got the right idea?

Water prevention is one of my main concerns and I am happy to give up a bit of space to prevent against, which is why I was asking about the void - so water that does enter the walls will just enter this void space I presume? This is why I thought the idea of using bitumen paint on the internal...

Insulating Detached Garage - have I got the right idea?

I like your idea of stud wall away from the outer wall. To be honest its a large garage, 4.6m by 6.0m internally, but I want to preserve as much space as poss for moving around the vehicle etc. For me, space and prevention of water is more important than being 'very warm'. I'll be using the...

Insulating Detached Garage - have I got the right idea?

Thanks for that Deluks, so painting is out. What void spacing is required for the walls and would I get the void by using counterbattens? I was going to use 25mm thick (1 inch) polystyrene as I dont want to eat away at the garage space too much, though would something like Celotex 25mm foil...

Insulating Detached Garage - have I got the right idea?

Hi All. I've finished all the structural work on my garage, just got some rendering to do to finalise the exterior and I am now looking towards the inside. I would like to make the garage a little more comfortable for working in the winter and want to minimise moisture forming on the interior...

Nailing Battens to rafters - 1 or 2 nails?

Sounds like a fairly basic question, but just though I would check how many nails should be used at each rafter to secure the battens. Battens are 25x50, 600mm centre rafters and tiles are concrete double roman - if that help any. Cheers. c.

    Render Consistancy

First of all thanks to all who have posted on this site, lot of useful info out there and its helped me imensly - we could do with a few more 'sticky' posts for common questions though, not sure how they get 'sticky'. Anyhow, one thing I learnt whilst doing my blockwork was getting the...

    Rendering: Use of beading

ok, thanks for that. So, as a beginer, I could use the single stop beads to help break up the area into more managable portions. I imagine it would be quite hard to 'conceal' the join between them - guess thats the advantage of doing it wet all in one go. Thanks for your help.

    Rendering: Use of beading

Ahhh, so they ought to follow movement joints IN THE BLOCKWORK - if there is one?
