Treating wood mold in loft - (the mold not the cause)

Hi there, I have some mold in my loft on the rafters. I'm currently sorting out the causes of the condensation so my question isn't to do with that. What should I treat the actual mold with? I have some basic mold spray but wondered if I shouldn't spray this at wood and if there was...

Loft insulation - Good or Bad for condensation

Hi there, I'm pretty sure I have a handle on the root cause of condensation in the loft (//www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=160032) But one thing that I seem to get different answers on is loft insulation - I'm talking about fibre glass based normal loft insulation that isn't...

    Bathroom extractor fan - advice

just as an update, the plumber who came around to quote for the extractor fan thinks that it'll be fine to go out the soffit - he says that by the time it gets outside it'll just dissipate. He says that its rare for bathroom fans to vent out the roof. It sort of makes sense, maybe going...

Condensation in loft: How to dry / fix

Hi all Still suffering from this. I've just had a plumber around to quote for fitting the bathroom extractor fan which I'm definitely going to do. When he went into the loft he suggested fitting celotex between the rafter in the roof on the north side. This should stop air hitting the felt...

    Bathroom extractor fan - advice

wow - thanks for the advice. Definitely going out of the roof / wall than soffit. One last question, I have an old vent tile that the old boiler used to use so I'm thinking of using that rather than putting another hole in the roof. The issue is that it must be a good 10 feet from above the...

    Bathroom extractor fan - advice

Thnaks, rjm2k - they are redland stonewold mk 2 tiles - I know this as someone kindly told me on another (semi related) thread //www.diynot.com/forums/roofing-guttering/ventilation-tile.348522/ It's interesting what you say about the electrics. Ideally, I think I'd actually like an...

    Bathroom extractor fan - advice

@saladfingers and @johnD, Could you point to anywhere online that says that I don't need a qualified electrician to fit the fan in the loft? It would be good to see what the regs are. I'm getting a quote from my plumber to install the fan - he's happy to do the electrics but doesn't know...

    Ventilation tile

Thanks again! I'll probably seek a local roofer so I don't end up with any accidents! Hope to get on top of this condensation issue, it's a right pain...

    Ventilation tile

Thanks for that, you certainly sound like you know what you're talking about! I'm thinking that I might just vent the bathroom out of one of these and see if that helps with the problem. If I do have to add more ventilation do you have any idea how many I'd need to have (I'm getting...

    Ventilation tile

Hi there, I need to get ventilation tiles for more ventilation in my loft. I'm also considering an extractor fan in the bathroom that will vent out the roof. Could someone point me in the right direction after looking at the photo below? (you should be able to click on it to enlarge it...

    Soffit vents

Thanks for the advice Steve - I had issues with condensation in my attic last year. I had someone round to inspect the attic and make sure that the insulation was pulled back from the edges of the loft. They said it was and also noted that the main condensation was nearer the top of the...

    Bathroom extractor fan - advice

Oh and "noddy997" - I'm no expert on this but I did have trouble with condensation in my attic last winter so I'd say that adding any more moist air directly into the attic is just asking for trouble.
