Replacing 12v bathroom fan with 240v one.

Correct. When I thought that the diameter was the deciding factor, I rounded to the nearest 0.5mm increment and assumed manufacturing tolerances were the reason it wasn't quite a 1mm.

Ah, ok. That I will do in the future. I may be an engineer but I’m no electrician! Anything more complex than this I would definitely pass over to skilled guy who knew things like that.

Replacing 12v bathroom fan with 240v one.

I’m an engineer by trade, measuring equipment I have a lot of! So it was measured with a digital vernier. (The unused earth was 1mm dia)

Replacing 12v bathroom fan with 240v one.

Thanks for all your replies. There is no timer on the old fan, just a standard on off by the light switch fan and definitely no timer in the transformer box either. The core size of the cable at the fan end I’ve just measured at 1.4mm. So I think I’m good to go with a 240v fan by just...

Replacing 12v bathroom fan with 240v one.

Thanks for the reply! I have a neutral and switched live at the fan end so will only be looking at basic fans with a 2 cable connection and at least ipx4.

Replacing 12v bathroom fan with 240v one.

Hi. I'm currently renovating my bathroom and I want to replace the extractor fan with something a bit more modern with a brushed stainless steel look finish. The current setup is a 12v with a transformer outside the bathroom above the door. Despite spending hours on the net and visiting 2...

When you say "proper real stuff" do you mean just the solid wood or both types? And I take that I don't need to put a DPM down now as well? Cheers.

About to lay a solid wood floor on a new concrete floor...

Thanks. I'll be able to find out on Friday how long the floor has been down, as it could have been as much as 12 months by now. Also would this do the job? http://www.hss.com/g/49420/Damp-Meter.html

Ok, but is it something I need to do if I'm putting down a DMP first?

About to lay a solid wood floor on a new concrete floor...

I'll be laying a DPM first but should I check the floor with a dampness meter first? and if so what one should I buy? The floor has been down a minimum of 6 months. Thanks.
