I think that you will find that this is for a private owner, not a paying customer. What I would do in a customer situation would be a different matter.
Hi AlenE,
Just how old do they have to be to have no adjustment under the damper? I've yet to come across one that I could not throw away the ram/damper, but still have the adjustment slide under it.
Err yes it does...
Not in the original place I grant you, but remove the 15mm headed plug on the opposite side to the pressure adjustment and it will reveal a small threaded port that the pressure line to the ram fits into. You will have to reshape the line
Can't think what two bits could fall out?
There is the plastic coupling, or the screws that fix the pump in the motor. You only need remove the small pressure line and loosen the fixing screws, remove the solenoid to get the pump out. Don't really need to take off the flexi's.
What were...
Could be the motor/pump coupling binding or pump. Remove pump, spin motor. Then check coupling, see if it is worn and if there is rust in the motor dog. Try turning pump shaft.
See what you come up with.
Don't keep fiddling with the control stat  Set it at about 70 to 75* and leave it alone, it sounds like it's doing it's job. It heats up to the control stat temp then stops until the temp goes down then starts again.
I can't really say what the charge for a service should be :wink...
There is a genuine part from Riello, check with your merchant. Or I would have thought that you could get yourself a selection box of 'O' rings (no ill store for the van), but make sure that they are Nitrile rubber, if not they are not resistant to kerosene.
