Been to wickes and got the rebated frame ...i have took old one out without any problems ,got different frame to one posted by Thevictorian as this fits better...I have also made the opening wider as the other frame (header was a bit smaller).
Just need to make sure i put it up square...
yes there is no lintel but it is a hollow wall about 2ft that is plastered.I can see right through where the architrave was removed ,so just a few crumbling bits of plaster would come away.

I measured the frame from where the yellow arrow is ,from one side across to the other side of of the frame on the opposite wall and it measured 31" 9/16 across from frame to frame. the height of the frame from laminate floor ( this passes under door frame ) and is 79" high.

you can put wba on and skim after 2 hours, you could also leave it up there for 2 years and come back and skim it, dont worry about your skim going off if you have applied it right the walls will all be sealed , keyed and ready to go
