Reducing air conditioning noise

Hello,

I have an Unico Inverter 9 HP wall-mounted air conditioning unit in my ground floor bedroom. This system has the compressor and gubbins enclosing in a single unit. There are two 205mm holes through the wall to provide air to and from the machine.

The machine works great and is quiet inside, however the noise from the compressor and airflow is loud outside and is causing a disturbance to my neighbours.

The company have said that the noise is only within line of sight of the outside vents and I therefore need to find a way to sound-proof it by directing the airflow somewhere else. I am thinking of something like this, but obviously on a bigger scale to suit the 205mm holes.



Does anybody have any ideas on how I could do this, please?

As it is ground floor what about a large garden planter places say a foot in front of it or even just a large bush to absorb the noise, it's the sort of thing the do with motorway noise, with barriers or trees.

Unfortunately, the vents face my narrow driveway and there is no space for a plater or bush in front of the unit.

You would be amazed at how much sound is soaked up by sound-absorbing felt. Try to work out a way of muffling the vents with felt without obstructing the airflow and with protection from rain; a cowl or hood like the one you have pictured, lined with felt, would probably do the job. Get the felt from automotive trim suppliers like Segal Motor Trimmings in Manchester.
