Dark brown stain in the WC pan

I got some of these but cannot see where to put them in the cistern.
Instructions say under the float opposite end to where the water comes in but the water seems to come in under the small float?

They're talking about an old ball valve with a long arm and ball float by the sounds of it. Opposite end from the fill valve should be fine I would think.

It's generally recommended not to use chlorine bleach products in cisterns with flush valves, as opposed to syphons, as it can rot the rubber washer. I don't know how much of this is 'cover the manufacturers a***' though.
If you have a small float the block should fit under there if there's not enough space elsewhere, as the float won't drop all the way to the bottom of the cistern.

Thanks. I had not thought about this. They seem to be doing a good job but from what you say I think I will use them for a few weeks at a time with a break in between and not leave them in long term. Thanks for help

Just change the pan for a dark brown one. Then if this happens again the stain won't be noticable. White pans are so 1990's 
Just don't be tempted to use those plastic cage efforts which hang in the toilet bowl - sooner or later one will fall in and they are the perfect size to get stuck in the drains, usually in the most inaccessible place.
