soldering an air separator into central heating

I'm battling trying to get an air separator (one of these) soldered successfully. The issue I think is that I just can't get it hot enough. I'd initially connected it via solder ring connections however wasn't convinced they'd joined correctly. Sure enough both leaked when the system was...

    removing logo from sunglasses lens

Has anyone got any tricks for this? Bought a pair of sunglasses the other day thing it was a sticky label but it's not. Looks/feels like it's painting on the lens as you can feel it over the top of the lens. A quick google suggest nail polish but I don't like what it might do to the actual...

drain pipe for new dishwasher - what length can it be?

Hi, I'm looking at installing a dishwasher into our kitchen. However, the only place I can fit it is a fair way from the sink. I'm thinking of fitting a waste pipe round the back of the cabinets to the sink and just putting a T piece in above the trap to connect it into. Does this sound like...

    darken concrete paving slabs?

I have some huge concrete slabs in my garden, like the ones used in pavements (600 x 800 and about 40 mm thick). Has anyone got any tips or ideas on how I could darken the colour on them? At the moment its all a bit too light grey and whilst it's a really practical space it looks a bit...

    insulating bathroom extractor pipe

I've got a fairly long length of the flexible hosing in the loft coming from the showers extractor fan. Everything was good until I insulated the loft. The pipe runs flat along above the insulation and it's now holding water. I think it's happening due to loft temperature being near-freezing...

Built-in Dishwasher front - can you use a cabinet door?

The time has come for me to decide I definitely need a dishwasher. I'm looking at swapping a 600mm wide cabinet for a built-in dishwasher. Are there any obvious reasons why I can't re-use the door from the cabinet to go on the front of the dishwasher? Cheers, Steve.

    400 wide dishwasher?

I'm rather proud of the new kitchen I put in two years ago, however it's missing one fundamental thing - a dishwasher... All of the slimline ones I've seen are all 500mm wide. Does anyone know of any which fit in a 400mm wide unit? thanks, Steve.

Can you adjust the sensitivity of a PIR sensor?

I've got a PIR light on the front of the house which works great, but it doesn't have any adjustment on it that I can find. As soon as the sky goes overcast it will turn on when I walk past it which is getting annoying now that I'm actually home in daylight. Is there any way I can fiddle it...

    House Project

Well having used these and many other forums fairly extensively over the last year (mainly searching and reading old posts!) I though it was about time to put up a couple of photos. I bought the house two years ago this month, having graduated from uni a few months before. I work in...

    Are Plumbworld normally any good?

Having just ordered a few plumbing bits + a shower and a shower door from them I've found that they've forgot to send the shower and the door is damaged. Not really a good start with using them as all I've got to show is 2 very expensive isolator and check valves.... Have I just had bad...

    Hydrolux shower doors?

Hi, has anyone had any experience with Hydrolux shower doors, or other bits from them? I'm looking at getting one of their bifold doors, but can't find anywhere that stocks them to actually take a look at them and my old-fashioned ways mean I want to look and poke at anything which costs...
