Will this CU have live circuits after the RCD trips?

That makes a lot of sense, thanks. Is it something that I should bring up with the site manager during snagging? Next time I visit, I might take my RCD tester with me to see if it does fail.

Will this CU have live circuits after the RCD trips?

I've been looking at a new build property with solar panels on the roof, and I took a photo of the consumer unit. One thing that caught my eye was that the solar panels appear to be connected to an MCB that is downstream of an RCD. Is this normal? It looks to me like if a fault occurred in one...

    Atlas Kablo (again)

I think that may be cheating a little bit :)

    Atlas Kablo (again)

Surprise surprise, there's a tenuous attempt to link to the Grenfell fire. And this: If someone can get plasterboard to ignite through contact with an overheating cable, then I will be very impressed.

    Atlas Kablo (again)

Bit odd to come back to notifications on this thread now. I can tell you that the Atlas Kablo cable I used 7 years ago was purchased from a well known online electrical retailer, installed domestically, and the property has changed hands long ago. Not sure what else I can tell you that could...

What do I need re: loft changes

Are they in tension or compression? I'd be surprised if they are in compression, considering they're only 20mm thick, so have a lot of horizontal movement. Heh, it worked for the previous owners for a decade :) maybe they just got lucky.

What do I need re: loft changes

I'm looking to make some changes to my loft space to make it more accessible for storage. I have a cut roof construction, with horizontal beams 1240mm off the loft floor which I'd like to remove. Here's a diagram with the beams to be removed in green: The trusses are all identical and at...

    BT hub power cable

Just make sure you use three-core cable, even if the hub doesn't require an earth. You never know when an adapter and a brass lamp will magically appear because there's a new socket to plug in to.

Decent combi pliers for xmas pressie

Worse - CK Combicutters that have cut through a live cable! Nothing like having to cut every cable twice due to the line of holes in the cutters. :)

    Double-ended female PVC conduit adapter

That's perfect. Do I need a CEF trade account to buy or can I just go in branch and order? (Not in stock in my local branch)

    couple of questions

I think there should probably be a meter in there somewhere :)

    Double-ended female PVC conduit adapter

Hmm that's probably going to be more hassle than it's worth. Really I was just looking for an in-stock product from a UK supplier, if one existed. Never mind, galvanised it is. Nobody is going to see it but me anyway.

    Double-ended female PVC conduit adapter

The alibaba link looks like it could be what I'm looking for, but 20,000 is a large minimum quantity :). The only reason I don't want to use metal is that I'll be using plastic backboxes and plastic trunking, so purely aesthetic reasons.

    Meter turning with no load

I haven't measured how long it takes to complete a full revolution, but I'd estimate it's measured in minutes rather than seconds. The movement isn't constant though, as percussive maintenance seems to stop/start the movement sometimes (I accidentally bumped the meter while working).

    Double-ended female PVC conduit adapter

Too long I'm afraid. Only looking for the length of the regular coupler - about 40mm give or take.

    Double-ended female PVC conduit adapter

Sorry Eric I've not got a clue what you mean. Put another way, I need a white PVC version of this, threaded at both ends: I can then, using two male bushes, connect two boxes together.

    Double-ended female PVC conduit adapter

I'm looking for a double-ended version of this: It's for connecting two accessories together, as you normally would with a galvanised coupler and two male bushes. Except I want to do it in white PVC. Does such a thing exist?

    Meter turning with no load

Noticed an oddity the other day in our new house. I flipped the main switch on the CU and the meter continued turning (very slowly). There's definitely nothing funny going on with the wiring - just regular tails from meter direct to CU. It's also rather noisy - we can hear it turning from the...

Heat damaged MET - DNO responsibility?

Umm yeah that was the "before" photo. I didn't bother with an "after" photo as I didn't think the process of swapping two wires was exciting enough to warrant one :)

Heat damaged MET - DNO responsibility?

Just to follow up - the cut-out was replaced and a new earth provided. I checked the shower as it was reported as not working that morning (co-incidence?)
