I propose to build a hardstanding in the garden at the front of my property,can you tell me who is responsible for the services,gas ,water and electric which look as though they run from the boundary and then under the proposed hardstanding to my house. Regards

Your faulty line could be caused by your own phone.The engineer should have proved the fault to your own equipment or to Bt line incoming,and he should have demonstrated this while you were present.

Would it be ok to put polysterene that I have left over from my conservatory floor into the dwarf wall cavity to give added insulation properties

My bungalow that i recentley purchased has got cavity wall insulation,the blown in type also i have noticed that the air bricks have been blocked up on the outside of the property presumabley to stop the insulation escaping when it was being done is this in order.

I have a load of building sand left over,the type used for laying bricks.Can I use this sand to screed a floor or does it need to be grit sand.Also would it be ok to screed ontop of expanded polystyrene[jabfloor] .

Biblio,you really do not want to be messing with these block terminals,they are old style BT terminals that were originally for use with old type hard wired dial type phones.Have you got a modern plug in telephone,if so ,trace the wire from the roof space to the first plug in socket,in theory...

Using two wires, with master sockets as extension sockets, was an easy option when the wiring between extension sockets was damaged and only two wires were left in the cable.Not good practice but saved a lot of sweat running new cable and a lot of engineers took the easy option.
