    A leak i just cant stop !

I had the same problem with a Wicks shower, when fitting the doglegs into the wall mounted elbows the threads were sooo sloppy that a FULL roll of PTFE did not seal them, i got round the problem by fitting a rubber O ring inside the elbows and bottoming the doglegs in the theads, all been ok for...

    Van tyre size

How many tyres are 205/75-16 ? (ilegal to mix sizes on a axle) What van ? Does is require a class 5 or 7 MOT (class 7 checks load ratings - wrong rating and you fail) Is it taxed PLG ? - get stopped with wrong tyres by DVLA for over weight for the tyres and walk home with a GV9 ! The...

which is best, wooden or concrete post?

As mentioned, go for concrete posts, & 6" concrete gravel boards. If you want to add a trellis to the top simply sink the gravel boards into the ground to allow for the height of the trellis (I have a 4" trellis so sunk the gravel boards 4" into the ground leaving 2" above ground to protect...

    NO Stopcock

Hi all. OK - Fitted a new water softener for a friend on Saturday, at the outset we decided to replace the internal stopcock coming into the house as some time in the dim distant someone has mullered the square for the handle then molegrip'd it then drilled it (to pass a tommy bar through)...

    alloy wheel refurbishment ?

If you want a PUKKA job :- http://www.pristinealloywheels.co.uk/ At least as good as new - often better ! They stock most wheels (even obscure ones) already referb'd and simply swap with yours, I've yet to find a wheel design they can't do and the end result is simply SUPERB !

    Removing oil on concrete drive

As above OR Sprinkle some cement powder onto the oily patch, the cement will suck the oil up (way better then oil granules) and can then be hosed off, swept-up or if it's wet and the cement goes off it's easily removed with a few hits of a hammer as it won't take to the original surface.

    Punctures.

You are not alone on your beemer, the worst are some Porsche & Ferrari's with 4 distinctly different tyres, each corner having a completely different tyre (handed / directional & different sizes from & rear) And several 4 wheel drive models also require all 4 tyres to be within 2mm of each...

    Punctures.

Winter tyres are an exeption to the general rule, you obviously need the best grip on the driven axle, though not much good having the front end planted and the rear end coming round to meet it on every corner - hence it's recommended to fit a full set of 4 (IF you can ever find any in the UK...

    Punctures.

You are spot on with the Bird pressuers (2.9bar at both ends) On the Bird tyres, if you have BT020's do you have the correct fitments ? (BT020-W front and BT020-L rear) as they are reinforced versions specifically for the Bird. With the balancing, modern cars can take quite a big inbalance...

    Punctures.

Nitrogen does expand, but a let less then regular air (providing as much air is swapped out with charging/re-charging with nitro,) hence F1 cars ONLY use nitro ! You are spot on, most people just check/adjust with reguar air thereby diluting the nitro every check, though most nitro used to...

    Punctures.

If the tyre/rim was in perfect balance AFTER the combi plug was fitted it was obviously out of balance before as the combi weighs in @ 12g ! - either that or your fitter has the balancer set to show zero for anything under 20g (most balancers can be manually set to ignore up to a preset weight...

    Punctures.

Nitrogen also has a larger molecule thus does not permeate through the butyl liner of the tyre as fast as regular air thus holding pressure longer, it's also a dry gas (whereas compressed air is moisture laden which can rust rims and degrade the tyres inner liner) but is however not cost...

    kitchen wall cab bracket help..

WOW - now that bit of kit would have saved me hours installing my kitchen, the pathetic stupid silly piddling little excuses for brackets supplied with my B&Q cabinets were a joke, especially as I have plasterboard over breezeblock walls, trying to get the brackets tight just warped the board...

    Van tax is cheap?

I've just been to both extremes, just sold my Dodge Ram 'Rumble Bee' sport pick-up (2004 model) - brought it new and imported it myself, did the sva test a PLG and Tax was £190pa - it had a 5.7 litre HEMI V8 (0-60 in 5.6 seconds - not bad for a 2.5 ton truck!) but alas did 9 mpg on a run (4mpg...
