    Hi Blagard, sorry edited my post as you were writing, The new concrete will be approximately 30-35mm deep and 1 brick width. too thin? the dpc is right underneath the high brick so removing another course will be a right pita. I hear what you say about a more solid bridge....slate?

    yep, that's the closest I've seen yet :D It's the black flecks/spots that have thrown me, they are really prominent on a lot of bricks but none on others! I first thought it was a kind of road tar or mould, thanks tony that's a great start for me!👍

    Thought I'd better add that the front bathroom will be smaller to allow for the positioning of the new staircase.. It's not ideal but it will be a shower room to service two bedrooms only. So I believe it will be big enough (1.5x2.5m) Thanks
