    extractor fan through roof

I will have to run ventilation from my 100mm shower extractor fan thorugh 100cm of loft space and out through a 'made up' roof tile. As the roof tile is not directly above the fan i will have to use flexible ducting. Can a condensation trap be used with flexible ducting?

    Flooring after Washer Leak

A washer leak (join to cold water supply gradually worked loose) was only discovered after my laminate flooring started lifting. An insurance assessor has now indicated that both the laminate and the green floor boarding will have to be lifted and replaced. If the washer was to ever leak...

    Electronic Wall Switch Timer

My existing electronic wall on/off switch has a light sensor. When the dial under the cover is set (i.e. 6hrs) it will light up for this period at dusk if it is activated. As the light sensor bit has given up the ghost i need to replace it. The only problem is that I'm having difficulty locating...

    Gainsborough Energy 2000x

If I use the 'single strand on the earth wire' test this indicates a 6mm cable. Would this be sufficient to run the 10.8kw shower or MUST it be upgraded? (i.e. i don't want to take any chances). I'll post my fusebox wiring photo tomorrow Thanks in anticipation.

http://www.geocities.com/CIVICWALKER/tail.JPG Thanks for your replies - is there an 'easy way' for a novice to identify whether the gray cable is 10mm or 6mm ?

http://www.geocities.com/CIVICWALKER/tail.JPG Is the above what you're referring to? There is only one grey cable that goes to the main board?

    Gainsborough Energy 2000x

Thanks for the replies; the 45A box is shown on my website: http://www.geocities.com/CIVICWALKER/diynot.JPG I presume that I would need a 45A RCD as I have 10mm cable and the new shower is 10.8KW.

    Gainsborough Energy 2000x

On Christmas Day when one of my children had fortunately moved out of the shower spray to get some shampoo from the other end of the bath, the shower hose exploded out of the internal boiler unit in a shower of electric sparks. On entering the bathroom, I found not only a very distressed child...

    Light Switch with Security

I inherited with my house a wall mounted light switch which in addition to on/off has a light sensor which turns the lights on for a selected period after dusk - not sure what they are called? As the light sensor function has now stopped working, i was looking to replace it. Does anyone have any...

    ChipBoard + Loft Insulation

I used 3"" mending plates - 2 screws in existing joists and 2 screws in the new timber (49p for two @ Wilkinsons)

    ChipBoard + Loft Insulation

I boarded out the loft shortly after I moved in some 15 years ago. When I emptied it out (and filled my garage) a couple of weeks ago I discovered that there was some considerable weight up there. Once I've relaid the boards on the 4x2 [this weekend] i'll certainly ensure that i cut out the...

    ChipBoard + Loft Insulation

After advice from the ebuild Board, i've gone for 50x100mm rough timber running with the original joists.

    ChipBoard + Loft Insulation

Thanks Oilman. Maybe my only option would be to somehow raise the boards. I could run 4 x 2 across the joists befors boarding thus giving 8 inches - the problem would be securing them on top of the originals?

    ChipBoard + Loft Insulation

My loft has 10 inches of insulation. I want to chipboard out (light storage only) a 7ft x 15ft area. The problem is that the joists are only 4 x 1.5 inches and 2ft apart. Is there any insulation product which will fit inder the boards (i.e. 4inch gap) and provide the same insulation qualities...
