A washer leak (join to cold water supply gradually worked loose) was only discovered after my laminate flooring started lifting. An insurance assessor has now indicated that both the laminate and the green floor boarding will have to be lifted and replaced.

If the washer was to ever leak again, would having tiles rather than laminate prevent such damage to the boarding?

Is there any way of detecting such a leak earlier before the major damage is done?

I always use exterior ply under washing machine or dishwasher and butt the flooring to it, seal it round the edge then you should see the water leaking on the plywood if it come to the front or shine a torch etc
