    Soil Pipe

Hiya I've got a leak from where my vertical plastic soil pipe enters the cast iron section embedded in the floor. No movement in either. Can I cut a section of the plastic one out and use the flexible pan connector to join the 2 together? Or any other solution? Many thanks.

    Radiator Valve Reducers

Aaaaagh! My fault - just bought some trv sets with a 10mm reducer included, and my pipework is 8mm. Will the 10mm olive together with a decent wack of PTFE tape compress enough, or do I have to get a 15mm - 8mm reducer from somewhere? Many thanks

    4 gang light switch wiring

Hi Firstly, I know there already IS a thread on here with this title, but reading it there seems to be an absolute multitude of possibilities! If possible I just want to identify the live feed for this switch - I'm intending to get rid of this one and replace with 'normal ' 1 way switches. I'd...

    Humidity Fan

Hi I've just got a Manrose Intervent humidity fan ((NVF100H ) to go into a drying room, no light . The wiring diagram shows a connection to 'switch live '.....but as I've got no switch, or light, presume I just connect the permanent live and neutral ? Dumb question maybe :( Thanks !

    Triple Light Switch

Hello I've got a 3 switch lightswitch but would like to remove it as the only switch that I would vaguely term "in use" is permanently 'on' (switching it off cuts out the lights for a small circuit which has separate switches further down the line); the other 2 switches are, I think, for now...

    External Programmer for Combi Boiler

Hello I've just got a Drayton Lifestyle LP711 control unit for my boiler, a Vaillant ecoplus 837. I'd like to wire it myself.....am fairly handy unless instructions are aimed purely at an electrician - which I'm not!! Can I ask if this is doable, and if so, any advice would be very gratefully...

    Concrete Roof Valley

Hello I've got a roof valley which isn't leaded or similar - just concrete tiles that make up the valley trough with a cement fillet providing the joint with the roof tiles (these are a concrete Marley type). Over time this cement fillet has perished in places and I've raked out & repointed...

    40mm Waste into Inspection Chamber

Hello I'm putting a new sink in, and can go directly through the outside wall and about 1m away from the house is an inspection chamber (foul). Is it ok to dig down and put my 40mm waste straight into this? I understand that it's got to be angled to the direction of flow, but could I break into...

Shower and Basin Waste into Existing Soil Waste

Hello As above, really. I've got a small cloakroom with an existing WC and basin, and want to move the toilet and fir a new basin and shower. There isn't a vertical stack (vent) pipe in the room, so my question is: 'Can I tee the shower & basin waste into a 40mm waste then join this to the...

Fairy Lights (or similar) Lights & Lighting Circuit

Hello Is it possible to wire a chain of fairy lights, or a similar light 'chain', to an existing junction box on a lighting circuit (containing the cables for power, switch and existing light fitting)? If this depends on the type of light chain, can you please give any advice regarding what...

Building Regs: New Staircase/Alteration of trimmer

Hello I'd be REALLY greatful for some advice here please! I realise that my question should fall into the building forum too so apologies if that is the case. I'm putting a staircase into an existing mezzanine area after reinforcing it to B Regs requirements. I'll have to remove the width of...

    Timber Column

Hi y'all I'm converting a mezzanine-type of storage area in what used to be the garage, into a mezz. bedroom area, and to get a compliant staircase in, will have to cut away the main joist for the staircase access. This goes from wall-wall (widthwise) and supports the other joists. Before I go...

    Insulating Pitched Roof

Hello all I'm converting a pitched roofed garage and therefore have to fully insulate the roof between and below the rafters (which are 4" x 2"). The Building Inspector has asked for 50mm Kingspan (or similar) between the rafters, and 100mm below, then the plasterboard. I can understand the...

Wall Lights / Fluorescent Strip Lights

Hello I've just removed some wall cabinets and they had fluorescent lights on the underneath a la 1970's. These obviously only had one cable into them. My question is, can I fit a switched wall light to the wall (where the cable appears), and is it pretty obvious how to connect? Many thanks!

    Accessing Existing Underfloor Waste Pipe

Hello! I'm shortly going to be fitting a shower in an existing downstairs cloakroom which has a wc and sink. The wc waste disappears down directly behind the wc and I'm assuming the basin waste ('imperial' 32mm!) empties into the same waste as they are both in line. I'd be grateful for some...

    Shower Room Fan (with timer)

Firstly - sorry - I know that this topic has been discussed before but I can't find any discussions that includes my questions! I'm replacing a knackered fan of the same basic type but the existing wiring has me confused as I can't now understand the wiring diagram on the new fan...

PLANS - FOR PRICING AND FOR BUILDERS TO FOLLOW

I am thinking of taking on a project with existing architects plans available; if it happens it will be a renovation of existing farm buildings to residential use. I would intend using builders to at least first fix then take over SOME stuff myself. Can anyone advise me if these existing plans...
