We've been quoted £700 for labour alone to build a flue in an inglenook-type fireplace up to the chimney liners which start about 70cm above the mantelpiece level. It is to take a traditional coal fire (clay back, cast iron front with built-in grate and canopy).
Q1oes this seem reasonable? (He's talking about 2 days work to build the flue and fit the fire).
The guy runs a solid fuel heating and stoves business, so I am assuming he is qualified to do the job (although I cannot see that it will require huge skill - it will just be quite heavy work.).
Q2; Does anyone who installs a solid fuel fire need to be qualified, and if so by which organisation?
Thanks in advance for any info/advice.
