Is it ok to plug an electrical appliance (which is fitted with a molded 13 amp plug) into a normal plug socket or does it also need a special 13 amp socket as well?

I know it fits but it's just a normal plug socket - there is no 13 amp in the socket itself - just in the plug

The plug contains the 13A fuse!! The socket is rated to allow you to draw 13amps through it (more possibly)

Stop worrying, what are you plugging in?

A 2kw electric fire. I was hoping to plug it directly into a 13 amp fuse socket i have already but the appliance came with a molded plug i can't alter.

Is the moulded plug of the 3 pin variety or is a european 2 pin?

If it is a 3 pin (like on your TV, stereo, microwave etc) then plug it in, switch it on and get warm!!!!

If it is a european 2 pin plug, check for a symbol that is a square in a square, cut it off and fit a new 3 pin plug brown to the fuse (on the right) blue to the neutral (on the left) nice tight terminations with plenty of copper, screw up the cable clamp and the cover, plug it in, turn it on and get warm

Are you refering to an FCU by any chance?

What they said - the fuse is in the plug! Unless it's something massive, you just plug stuff in and the fuse in the main fuse box is your friend... :)
