Hi

If fixing a 2" x 2" batten to a brick wall what screw size should be used?

It will be used to support the back edge of a 800mm shower tray.

Normally go for a ratio of two thirds in wall, one third in timber.
So 2"x2", looking at 6". The depth of the wall being fitted to will also be a factor.

A 6" screw seems a bit over the top. Didn't you mean the ratio should be the other way round - ie 1/3 in wall (exc. plaster) and 2/3 in timber?

IMO a 3 1/2" screw would be fine

The size of the screw needs to work with the plug you put in the wall, You should be going for heavy gauge screws. Frequency of fixings also need to be taken into account, so if it was me I would use 4 screws.

If you are able to support the back edge of the tray by propping it off the floor that would in my opinion be better. But if circumstances mean there is no floor, by all means use the batten.

4" 10's (100mm 5's) with brown plugs and a 7mm drill bit.

6" screws is ridiculous.
