240v low energy downlights - advice needed

You are being very silly 'Bas' :) of course i know what the building regs 'looks like' and its not the 36 page pdf you have downloaded, which really isnt the complete unabridged version.
You are wrong about what it looks like - that PDF file bears the title Building Regulations because that's what it is.

True it's not 100% up to date - they haven't incorporated SI 2008 No. 671 which changes the time limit for prosecution of certain Building Regulations contraventions, 2008 No. 2334 which enables of electronic communication of specified building control documents and 2007 No. 991 & 2008 No. 2363 which deal with Energy Performance certificates.

You can download those here:

http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2008/pdf/uksi_20080671_en.pdf
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2008/pdf/uksi_20082334_en.pdf
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2007/pdf/uksi_20070991_en.pdf
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2008/pdf/uksi_20082363_en.pdf

but their omission hardly makes the consolidated version "abridged".

Part L1 and L2 of the BR comprise 155 pages alone for goodness sake, and part P all of 44 pages!
No - the Building Regulations don't have a Part L1 and L2, only a Part L, and it's about ¼ of a page long.

You're talking about the Approved Documents, not the Building Regulations.

so i think you need to research a bit further than what you have already before you can make any further comment.
Ironic, or what.....

The building regs will not tell you how to do you your job fella, just like B7671 doesnt tell you how to be an electrician. Both are documents designed for professionals to assist them in understanding the standards that are required or recommended at the point at which they are published. They are not a minimun standard to work to!
And nowhere have I suggested otherwise - all I did was to ask you where the Building Regulations require holes in ceilings to be made good.

Dont think about being 'adequate' Bas, think about being a Professional.
Maybe you should think about finding out about the Building Regulations, as this assertion: "of course i know what the building regs 'looks like'" is demonstrably false.

I dont think you know what you are talking about here my friend
