Hi, i have just recently purchased a new 1 bedroom first floor mainsonette. The property was built in 1979 and the current boiler is the orginal one fitted when it was built a Baxi boiler. I want to get a combi bolier as it is cheaper to run and as the flat is tiny will give me more space as the tanks are removed.

I need some advice as i got a 3rd quote last night and the guy said that the gas pipe would not pass a pressure test and would be need to be replaced as the pipe is too old, costing even more money. I am not sure if he is trying to con me as the other two quotes i got never mentioned anything about the pipe or a pressure test!

I would be very grateful for any help and advice?

Thanks

In truth that chap was probably the most consciencious of the 3. Nine times out of ten when switching from a conventional boiler to a combi the gas supply is not adequate. This is because when you initiate a call for hot water the boiler must fire on maximum capacity which is usually a minimum of 24kW to heat your incoming cold main from probably 4 degrees to 55 in an instant.

Thank you so much for your reply, this has put my mind at rest. Just have to figure out how to pay for it all :-/

Thanks again!
