Hi guys,

Can you help with the following issue please?

We have used our AEG OKO Lavamat Turbo for c. 4 years, it recently started tripping the lower ground electricity. Whenever the power was turned on on the washing machine, the electricity on the ground floor tripped. To save time we got in an engineer.

When the engineer tried the machine the following day, the machine was apparently working okay - no tripping. The engineer examined the machine anyway and discovered that the heating element was the problem and changed it. £100 all in.

We used the machine once the next day.

The following day we tried the machine again. This time it tripped the electricity, but this time only in the kitchen. Trying the machine again when the elec'y is back on, we can now turn the machine on without tripping the electrics, however that is all we get from the washing machine, lights but no action.

The diagnosis now is that (there was a small amount of water under the cupboards from a seperate small leak) water has got in from under the machine and ruined the motor and some of the other electrics.

1) Is this feasible? My cycnical though is that the first repair may not have been honest?
2) IF there was water underneath the machine (2-3mm depth if any) would that be sufficient to ruin the motor and electrics of the machine?

Cheers

Ok, just been informed that the seal is broken so water has got through there. This sounds more feasible to me....?

Water underneath the machine could cause tripping of the electrics.

The motor is mounted underneath the machine the water evaporates and condenses on the motor. This cause it to short circuit to earth.

I have succesfully revived many motors with this by the simple expedient of drying out the motor in a Rayburn (warming oven only) or placing in front of a fan heater.

Check the motor brushes are ok and the comutator is not marked.
