Called out to house today for estimate, part of which involved security lighting.

Found out the supply for three 500W PIR floods was run off 0.5 twin flex plugged into f/floor socket, feeding a 4 way extension in loft, into which the three 1.0mm t & e cables were plugged. And the power shower was plugged into the fourth, using an old plug top with unsleeved pins, connected to a sw spur in airing cupboard - 13A fuse.

Also, immersion wired in 2.5 up to element.

And both these jobs were done by "qualified" tradesmen, the bathroom only recently by a nationwide company....cannot mention any names. Careful, now!!

What a bag of s*it.

You didn't say which trade! Last time I checked cattle rustling and shouting "yee-haw" didn't count as trades so perhaps these guys should be reported.

I have to respect the honesty of the builder my parents used to do a shower room. Rather than "have a go" he told them up front that he wouldn't be able to do the electrics as he didn't think his knowledge was sufficient. Which meant that they got in their usual spark to do the sparky bits and ended up with a proper job, meeting regs. Perhaps in the situation of the job in question the guy who did the electrics just thought he would try it without considering if he actually knew the first thing about it? Perhaps it was even the owner of the house, now trying to avoid blame for a shocking job!

No, the couple who live there have only ever done painting, no other diy at all.

The company shall remain secret as the householders have now gone to court.

Gone to court? Perhaps they should ask the magistrate to come and take a look at the wiring, he couldn't do a worse job than the funky gibbons who did the last jobs!

Bet they're glad they had you round now, it must be a relief for them now it's sorted.
