I have recently split the lighting circuit of a house I am preparing for rental into 2 circuits (upstairs and downstairs). The downstairs circuit comprises Lounge, Kitchen and stairs lights. The question I have is regarding a triple switch that controls all 3 of these lights. It is the only switch for the kitchen light but the other 2 each have an alternate switch. From what I have seen of the way it is wired, there appears to be only 1 permanent live into the switch (from the kitchen) which is directly connected to the live terminal of each of the 3 switches thereby allowing the other 2 to operate 2 way switching with just T&E cables rather than 3 core and earth.
I have checked each ceiling rose and all seem to be correctly wired as part of a radial circuit, all have correct live, earth and neutral connections. The question obviously is "Is this safe/acceptable practice?". I do intend to have the house tested by an electrician before letting it out as a precautionary measure but I would like it to basically just be confirmation that everything is ok. Replacing these wires with 3 core and earth would be a major job and involve taking a lot of plaster off. I can see the logic why the circuit works and I can't see anywhere that wires would be taking too much load but I haven't seen this set up before so need to find out if only for peace of mind and the education.
