I'm farily certain I put in 5 year protection but not sure now and service recommend changing it after a certain mileage.
If I used an antifreeze tester and passed, would that be enough, or are there other reasons to change the coolant other than it passing an antifreeze check?

Your antifreeze tester will indeed tell you to what degree of temperature you are protected - but it won't tell you how good the corrosion inhibitors are, unfortunately.

what colour is it?

when did you change it?

I usually keep the old bottle lying around as I tend to get too much and have a bit over. i was surprised to learn that an excessively strong mixture can freeze more easily than the recommended mix, so I don't tip the extra in any more.

The antifreeze reddish.. ethelyne gygol stuf.

Not a clue when I changed it. I wrote a note at the time that it would need doing in either April 2014 or when I hit 84000 miles, I'm 500 short at the min.

I'll trust my notes and just do it. Didn't know that you can help it freeze by putting too much of the stuff in.
