Poss thermostat faulty. Otherwise the compressor is on its Way out. You cannot change the comp as it needs regassing afterwards. The only thing u can do is switch it of for 24 hrs for a total defrost then change the thermostat. Otherwise phone Hoover and they will fix it under 5 years old for about 100.00

The freezer is over ten years old so not under warranty. Ill try the stat first if that does not work ill check out the cost from hoover,and than go from there.

Is the comp running?

If so may have just leaked gas. Trouble is regassing may then find the compressor is not compressing!

Maybe at that age its best to treat it like a 10+ year old boiler?
