I'm not exactly over impressed with the Yale 6400, as it is far less flexible than I thought it would be. I've got a 3 bedroom detached house, with a detached garage. The garden has a gate which is locked but which would be easy to push open. I'd like to put a door contact on that, and an outside PIR. But all the Yale accessories with the exception of the siren are designed for inside use.

I wish there were a wider range of accessories, such as:

* Outside PIR
* Outside door contact
* Laser beam which gets broken if an intruder crosses it.

I wonder if anyone has used the PIRs outside. If they are well protected from the elements, would they be ok?

I've been thinking about putting the door contact inside a sealed tube, with some silica gell inside, then using a more powerful magnet which would probably be necessary due to the increased distance. Another option might be for me to try to find a door sensor designed for wired external use, then run a couple of wires into a box with the Yale door contact.

It seems to me the Yale 6400 is fine for someone with a terraced house, but if you have a detached house with a bit of ground, it is rather limited. I don't own a mansion - only a 3 bedroom place!
