Attic electrics

Hi all,

Could someone give me a brief summary of whats involved in getting a light and a double socket installed in my attic.

My upstairs contains 2 bedrooms only with standard ceiling lights and plenty of sockets.


I've an electrician coming around in a few days and I'd like some idea of what work is required.

lighting is easy just branch stright off upstairs lights

for a socket there are a few ways

if you have unfilled cavity walls many sparks will just run a cable down them and go from thier stright to the cu. however i hear this is frowned opon by a lot of sparks (cue the flamewar)

another option is to spur off a socket on the upstirs ring with a cable stright down an inside wall (burried in plaster if desired)

there are probably other ways too
